Performs the most difficult and significant basic or applied research or other related activities in one or more specialized fields of plant or plant related science, supervises others engaged in research and provides information regarding the field of specialization to the public and others
- Responsible for activities related to research or other related activities in one of the following specialized fields: Entomology, nematology, plant genetics, plant pathology, plant physiology, plant taxonomy, plant ecology, horticulture, or soil science.
- This position works under professional guidance in conducting individual research and preparing findings for publication.
- Applies scientific knowledge and methodology to the solution of problems. With assistance plans, organizes, and conducts research and participates in cooperative research projects as required.
- Helps to write research-related papers for publication in scientific journals.
- Conducts field inspections, tests, or surveys in connection with research or other related activities.
- May maintain collections of specimens for exhibition, study or reference purposes.
Required Experience
A Ph.D. degree with specialization in Plant Ecology, Plant Taxonomy, Horticulture or a closely related field from an
- accredited college -AND- Two years' professional research experience in the field of Plant Ecology, Plant Taxonomy, or Horticulture.
A Master's degree with specialization in Plant Ecology, Plant Taxonomy, Horticulture or a closely related field from an
- accredited college and two additional years of the required experience will be accepted for the Ph.D. degree.
Physical Class: 2 - Light:
Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
Special Requirement Information: Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources. Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references. Also acceptable, if appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
